Q: what does "feedbeat" mean?

feedbeat was intentionally meant to be close to the same than now but with music only. we simply where bowled over by the wave of internet videos and not stupid enough to ignore it. call it destiny, call it flexibility. the “feed”s where always there. only the “beat” has morphed from proverbial to metaphorical. but you can feel the beat too, can´t you?

Q: is feedbeat yet another videohoster like y*ut*be?

nope! feedbeat is neither a video hoster nor a hyper- cross- cast- broadband- mega- combo- global content delivery network. feedbeat doesn´t even have a commenting function or similar fluff.

Q: hmpf, ok then. what is feedbeat?

feedbeat is all about video playlists, xml-formats and a web based user interface to manage them. that´s it.
users do boockmark and add video files from their webspaces, public web storages, open minded video hosters or any other file source available. they do compile their personal on-demand webTV lineup this way which feedbeat broadcasts via various XML feeds (e.g. RSS podcast) and an embeddable flash video player.
think of it as a video index built out of thousands of different channels compiled by its users.

Q: is feedbeat is yet another video grabber?

definitely not! feedbeat is an indexing XML building 'media to the masses' tool, not more not less. its users do decide which, when and what content they want to have indexed and as such promoted via feedbeat. on the other side of the river viewers do get precompiled content feeds. feedbeat does not provide a download- or 'search per keyword so I can grap all I can carry' -mask for viewers. feedbeat canalizes and negotiates between both parties. conclusion: nope!

Q: so, what is feedbeat good for then?

for cheap, open webTV for everyone.

feedbeat negotiates between content providers and viewers on the one hand and give you the chance to concentrate on the essentials on the other. you dont have to mess around with RSS standards, database queries, access restrictions and management, statistics and more. you have enough time to handle things that matter. and don´t believe the hype: video is much easier to handle as y*ut*be and other do suggest.

Q: where do i find the upload-button?

quick answer: we do not like upload buttons. you do not have to bring your content in. all you have to do is to show feedbeat where the data of your desire lies. this has drawbacks and advantages. mayor advantage: you do control the file. you can delete, alter or lock it any time you want. mayor drawback: you have to make all arrangements of storage for yourself. take a couple of minutes to think about that.

Q: storage is so expensive and other video hosters give it for free, so why should i use feedbeat?

first of all: sorry, both assumptions are wrong:

  • storage and traffic isn´t that expensive as you might think. take a look at aws.amazon.com for example and be surprised. if you do not want do handle this, feel free to contact us and we will help you as good as we can.
  • most video hosters do not give away storage and traffic for free. you do pay for both with your content. once you´ve hit the upload-button most of times you do loose control about what happens next. THEY will decide for YOU where your content is being published and in which context. you might never mind that in case you do viral marketing or similar. but beyond that you really should take the time to think about the consequences and who you do entrust your goods.

Q: ok, where are the download-links for the videos?

we don´t believe in downloads and local hard-discs. trillions of working-hours where spent to build up the internet holding mankind´s data and knowledge - and counting. since you can find nearly everything you need for your daily data-consumption in there what is downloading good for? it´s just waste of local disc-space, believe us!

Q: why are some thumbnails only represented by a placeholder?

thumbnails are produced by angry dwarfs in the mysterious caverns of the feedbeat-server. this process sometimes takes a while (sometimes even a damn looooong while - depending on stuff to do). so, please be patient. your thumbnails will appear in some lucky moment. please refer the jobmonitor docu for further background information on how jobs are processed at all.

Q: I wrote an email / trouble-ticket but didn't get any reply. What's wrong with you?

Easy mate, everything is shiny. Please allow at least 48 hours to process your request. OK, this isn't that fast. But hey, take it easy. Live is not about feedbeat only. It's also about sun, and birds singing and ice-cream. Anyway: EVERY incoming email / trouble-ticket will get a respond. That's a promise.
